BMW MOTORRAD WORLD ENDURANCE TEAM & Ilmberger Carbon: Innovation and Partnership in the EWC

The Partnership: BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team & Ilmberger Carbon

Since 2023, Ilmberger Carbon has been the official partner of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team in the prestigious FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC). This partnership continued in 2024 and is also firmly planned for the 2025 season. Ilmberger Carbon provides highly advanced carbon components specifically tailored to the extreme demands of endurance racing. This collaboration represents top engineering, innovation, and the pursuit of maximum performance.

Aerodynamic Evolution: From 2023 to 2025

The past years have been marked by intensive aerodynamic development of the BMW M 1000 RR. The focus was on further optimizing efficiency and stability at extremely high speeds – a crucial factor in the EWC, where top speeds of almost 350 km/h are reached on the legendary Mistral straight at the Bol d’Or. The carbon parts from Ilmberger significantly contribute to the motorcycle not only cutting through the wind but also being optimally streamlined.

Maximum Speed & Aerodynamics

The BMW M 1000 RR of the World Endurance Team has been equipped with a new aerodynamic package specifically designed for the demands of endurance racing. The carbon winglets and fairing parts provide additional downforce and reduce air resistance, which not only improves stability at top speed but also keeps lap times consistently low. The regularly achieved speeds of nearly 350 km/h on the Mistral straight are impressive evidence of the effectiveness of these measures.

Temperature Management: Protection for Man and Machine

A central theme in endurance racing is temperature management. During a 24-hour race like the Bol d’Or, the motorcycle must not only be aerodynamically efficient but also control the enormous heat development. The carbon fairing from Ilmberger is designed to direct the hot exhaust air without endangering the rider – especially in the leg area. Particularly during long stints and high outside temperatures, there is otherwise a risk of burns. The innovative airflow ensures that rider comfort is maintained and the mechanical components are optimally cooled.

Efficiency & Rider Comfort

Optimized aerodynamics mean not only more speed but also lower fuel consumption – a crucial advantage in endurance races where every lap and pit stop counts. By reducing air resistance, the team can ride longer stints with one tank fill, which is strategically of enormous importance. At the same time, the sophisticated carbon fairing improves the rider's protection from wind pressure and heat, supporting concentration and performance over many hours.

Technical Features of the EWC Class

The EWC class is the technical pinnacle in endurance racing. Here are some of the key features:

  • 24-Liter Tank: Unlike most other racing series, the motorcycles in the EWC are equipped with a 24-liter tank. This allows for longer stints and reduces the number of pit stops – a clear competitive advantage.
  • Lighting System for Night Races: Since many races like the Bol d’Or or the 24 Heures Motos in Le Mans run overnight, the motorcycles are equipped with powerful headlights and taillights. This technology is unusual for racing motorcycles and poses special requirements for aerodynamics and weight.
  • Quick-Change Systems: Quick-change devices are required for wheels and other components to save valuable seconds during pit stops.
